500 relatively low cost apartments in Kolkata arranged as 3 clusters of high, medium and low income groups.

Main photo shows the high income group ‘HIG’ type apartment with a characteristic lattice work of vertical and horizontal elements referred to as chajas, and; a louvre which is reflective of the Indian screen or jali to hide window units.

The strong orange and red tones are inspired by the colour of spices and introduced to further enliven the facades. 

The heavily pixilated pattern of the 'LIG' block disguises the rather utilitarian form. The residents of the LIG went from initial shock to loving the jazzed up façade.
